While using my MM522 insulin pump, I have come across a change I would like to make in the way the on-screen menu works.

The “remaining insulin” and the “battery life” indicators do not offer enough granularity.  To show only 4 bars when full and 1 bar when 25% full is not sufficient.  I would much rather have it display the exact units remaining for insulin and the percent remaining for the battery.  The LCD displays used in these devices are custom made and they could display anything Medtronics wishes.  Wouldn’t you rather have it show something like  27u on the far left side and 15% with a small lighting bolt beside it on the far right side.

I realize that graphics are a good way to display the status at a glance.  But my insulin pump is a very special device and I really want more precise information.  Sure, if I want to determine the exact insulin remaining, I can find out.  But it takes me 6 clicks.  3 ESC clicks and 3 down arrow clicks.  Each time I leave the house or go to sleep, I make a decision as to whether I need to do a site change or not.  There are indeed other ways to resolve this.  I can set my alarm to go off when the insulin level goes below a certain level.  But that does not work for me.  For instance, when I check the insulin level before I go to sleep, I want at least 10 units remaining.  However, when I leave the house, I want at least 25 units remaining, sometime more depending on the day.  So what I do is leave the alarm at 25 units.  What I would much rather have is the ability to glance down, see the units remaining.

Now if the above is not an option, then the amount of insulin remaining in the reservoir should appear at the very top of the Status screen, right below the last bolus information.  Not buried 3 clicks down below the “Reservoir Started” information.
